My Why…
Why I Practice and Teach Reiki
In 2002, I awoke one morning and couldn’t get out of bed. I was in terrible pain and the room spun around every time I moved. My primary doctor sent me for an MRI and found I had injured a few discs in my neck. I was not a fan of medication with a preference for alternative measures, but he insisted I take muscle relaxers to help my body relax enough to move forward in potential healing. I was told that there were no surgical procedures to help cure this condition, and that I would have to deal with pain management and vertigo for the rest of my life. Because I trusted my primary doctor, I took the medication. It rendered me useless to work and to speak. It did, however, help relax my neck. Once I finished the medication, the journey of pain management began. My doctor approached my healing from a more mental, physical, and spiritual angle and recommended books, yoga, breathing, chiropractic, food, etc. He introduced me to a chiropractor and after reviewing the X-rays the chiropractor looked right at me and he then said these powerful words which resonated with every fiber of my being: “You are an infinite being capable of complete healing.”
I had heard of Reiki but didn’t know very much about it. I began investigating and became certified for level I and was attuned to level II by 2006. With the help and cooperation and beautiful care from these two doctors, I was practicing this life force energy system and integrating it with their medical, mental, and physical suggestions. The study and use of Reiki was so effective, I decided to pursue level III & IV becoming master teacher by 2013.
I am grateful to these two doctors for thinking outside the box. Unifying modern medicine with alternative healing helped me find peace and a healing system that worked for me.
I now share my experience and knowledge as a teacher and practitioner of Reiki. This Eastern practice of focusing life force energy through the use of my hands helps people and animals to relax into health.
Why I Practice Reiki with animals.
I rescued Piper, an American Field Lab, 13 years ago when she was a year and a half. American Field Labs have a LOT of energy and I discovered she needed to expel that energy! I soon discovered she had another issue. She couldn’t sustain her mad need and desire to move, run, and be her joyful, crazy self for extended periods of time. I ended up rushing her to the vets a couple of times where she would spend the night so they could administer saline to get her back on her feet. Soon after I discovered another issue with her spine. It would wrench out of alignment with too much exertion and her back legs would buckle and she couldn’t walk. When she was older, she required two separate surgeries removing cancerous tumors.
I was practicing Reiki on myself and other people when I adopted her and realized that I could help Piper calm down using Reiki. I practiced Reiki on her before and after the surgeries for the tumors. She healed quickly. I continued to use Reiki all the time whether on our walks, at home or whenever I felt she needed calming.
Piper is now fifteen. I continue to use Reiki on her. She moves slower but is doing great.
She is my inspiration. I love practicing Reiki, sharing this powerful life force energy on any animal to help them relax into health.
